This seaside villa built in 1923 with an Edwardian front exterior defies a very different modern interior and rear modern exterior.
The landscape response the front garden was to create a formal contemporary classic design as a
respond to the architecture. The rear garden had a very contemporary look to match the modern extension to the rear, the planting was designed to be low maintenance and very naturalistic.
Modern materials were used, a grey deck, a seamless entry to the rear sliding glass doors. Coloured concrete paving pathways and patio areas trimmed with rusty steel edging. This was very much a response to connect the inside to the outside.
The design was very much about ease of access for a wheelchair from house to garden.
